Grantha Mitra – Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN)

Grantha Mitra is Akanksha Charitable Trust's Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) programme, designed to strengthen core reading, writing and arithmetic skills among students of Grades 4–7 in rural government and aided schools. Trained FLN educators conduct structured, small-group sessions tailored to each child's learning level, supported by regular baseline, midline and endline assessments to track progress. The programme maintains a low student-teacher ratio to ensure personalised attention, and integrates psychosocial support through counselling sessions for both students and parents. By focusing on children with the greatest learning gaps, Grantha Mitra ensures that no child is left behind in acquiring the foundational skills needed for future learning.

Library Setup

Library Setup

Library Setup is Akanksha Charitable Trust's initiative to convert underused school and panchayat libraries into active learning centres for rural children. By reviving existing infrastructure instead of building new spaces, Library Setup gives rural schools a sustainable hub for literacy that continues to serve students well beyond any single classroom session.

Volunteer Activities

Volunteer Activities

Beyond its structured programmes, ACT's volunteers regularly drive one-off initiatives that bring color, awareness, and hands-on learning to rural schools. Wall painting drives have transformed plain classroom and library walls at schools like GHPS Balanja, Mandekolu, and Makkale Mane Bolwar and many more into vibrant learning spaces, led by teams of 20 to 35+ volunteers over two-day projects. Volunteers also run single-session awareness workshops on topics ranging from environmental responsibility and child safety to career guidance and inclusive classroom practices for teachers, reaching students, parents, and educators alike. Together, these volunteer-led activities reflect ACT's belief that meaningful change often starts with small, collective acts — a coat of paint, an hour of conversation, or a single well-timed session of guidance.
